In the wise words of Smokey of Fridays, "...Y'all ain't never got two things that match. Either y'all got Kool-aid, no sugar. Peanut butter, no jelly. Ham, no burger". That is the question I have been asking the Lions for years now. How come you pay multi-million dollars to a quarterback with no O-Line? How come you draft receivers when you have no quarterback?
I am not saying that Matt will be a bust because of his own doing, but if he doesn’t make it a whole season this year, then I have to classify him as a bust because of his production versus the amount of money they are paying him. That is the usual measuring stick when it comes to most athletes in the industry….production vs. salary. It is an unfair means of measurement, but I want to see how the media reacts to this scenario more than anything.

I thnk the media will let him live another season before they crucify him by calling him a bust. Jamarcus Russel had a few years before he was run out of the league (did I just use run and Jamarcus Russell in the same sentence). However, Russell had other issues like the fact that he was a HORRIBLE NFL QUARTERBACK! Stafford is solid and has shown flashes of good during his limited playing days. The sad thing about Stafford and other QBs like him is that they are expected to start game one and be great; there is no sitting out anymore.
I remember when the Houston Oilers drafted the late Steve McNair. They sat him out two seasons before playing him as Tennessee Titans' quarterback; but it worked and he was never considered a bust. So maybe the media should take a page out of the Oilers' playbook and wait a few years (maybe 4) before they label something as dead or useless. Stafford is young and still has time to improve and adjust to not having an O-Line.
